The Mothithang Royal Takin Preserve is a wildlife Preserve, primarily for takin. It was first established in 1975 under the royal patronage of His Majesty the Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

These animals are released back into the wild once they have recovered, or if the caretakers and veterinarians believe the injured animal will not be able to survive in the wild, the animal will become a permanent resident.
Currently, 8 adult takin animals and 4 calves are kept at the preserve, 7 samber deer, 1 himalayan serow, 1 barking deer, 1 goral, 2 monal pheasants and 1 satyr tragapon.
